Why the future of work begins with what you hear
There is a curious paradox in the way we talk about the future of work these days. On the one hand, we talk about AI agents that summarise meetings, platforms that monitor spaces and devices in real time, and workplaces that are becoming ‘intelligent’; on the other hand, the average employee’s working day is not getting any less hectic. More channels, notifications and screens demanding attention, all issues that aren’t automatically resolved by workplace intelligence. Unless we also consider what exactly that intelligence serves: people’s attention and focus.

From standalone devices to a workplace ecosystem


The integration of HP Poly Lens and WXP Collaboration into the HP Workforce Experience Platform is the clearest indication of this. The practical impact is tangible: less time spent on troubleshooting, greater insight into which spaces are overloaded or underutilised and data that provides not only IT, but also facilities management and HR, with insights into how people actually collaborate.


Incidentally, this overview also has legal implications following the implementation of the European NIS2 Directive. Organisations must be able to demonstrate that they actively manage risks within their digital workplace, including the meeting rooms and devices that are part of it. A single platform providing an overview of all rooms and devices is therefore not only practical but will soon also be a compliance requirement.

What AI is actually changing in the meeting room


With the Poly Room Compute range and VideoOS 5.1, the nature of meetings themselves is also changing. Smart multi-camera technology that automatically switches to whoever is speaking may, at first glance, seem like a minor functional detail. But for organisations managing staff spread across offices, countries and home workplaces, this is no luxury. Anyone logging in remotely should not feel as though they are just a spectator.


The NPUs in the latest Intel Core Ultra processors, on which these computing solutions run, will enable AI functions to run locally in the future.

Focus is no longer a secondary consideration


Perhaps the easiest part of this announcement to underestimate is also the most human aspect: the new HP Poly Focus 6 Series headsets. These headsets operate at the individual level, which is ultimately where all the productivity gains from smart platforms need to be realised.


With Acoustic Fence 2.0 and hybrid ANC, they filter out ambient noise. Up to 25 hours of talk time, wireless charging and replaceable batteries and ear cushions that extend the device’s lifespan. These are details that tie in with something more fundamental: if organisations want people to be able to function just as effectively wherever they are, then it must literally be quiet enough everywhere for them to be able to think.

In short, this is not about a standalone product line, but a vision: devices, spaces and platforms designed to work together, rather than separate puzzle pieces that IT teams have to piece together themselves.
